Performance Theater Hall 2019 Stantec Galley

This conceptual project sought to incorporate three-dimensional architecture and sculpture with the surrounding natural environment. Rather than build the world around our desires, people must be able to step back and work with the natural space. The Performance Theatre Hall used an engagement zone in which it did not affect the environment, but instead worked within the environment by creating an underground community centre. The three-dimensional design focused on origami elements within the interior space. Rather than ‘cut’ the materials or environment, the interior sought to reflect working with the environment by sculpting and folding. In this way, the materials and environment were respected for their contributions to the human space, rather than bent to the will of the architect.
